The Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, in collaboration with TVRI Yogyakarta, once again presents OPSI: Obrolan Psikologi (Psychology Talk) in its seventeenth episode, aired on Tuesday, 2 December 2025, from 15:00 to 16:00 WIB. This episode raises the theme “The Dilemma of Two Worlds: Work vs Family,” discussing the challenges faced by families in which both partners are working. The episode invites the public to understand the dynamics of roles and demands between the workplace and family life, as well as the importance of communication, fair division of roles, and emotional awareness in maintaining harmonious relationships.

The episode features Fuad Hamsyah, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D., a lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology UGM, as the speaker. Fuad opened the discussion by highlighting the growing phenomenon of dual-income couples. He emphasized the importance of communication and fair role distribution within the family to prevent conflict. In addition, he discussed the potential psychological pressures and challenges couples may experience when work and family demands collide.

“What needs to be of concern is when emotions from the workplace are carried over and spill into the home, a phenomenon known in psychology as spillover. This spillover can be negative when unpleasant emotions from the office are brought home, but it can also be positive when positive emotions carry over as well. The challenge, therefore, is how individuals are able to manage and cope with these emotions so that they do not damage, but instead strengthen, family relationships,” said Fuad.
