The Psychodiagnostic Instrument Development Unit (UPAP) of the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), remains committed to accommodating the needs of test-takers with disabilities during the Graduate Academic Potential Test (PAPS). On Thursday (October 22), UPAP once again provided special assistance to a test-taker with a physical disability.
The test was conducted in the Multipurpose Room of the UGM Psychological Consultation Unit (UKP UGM). The room layout was adjusted to accommodate the test-taker’s needs, ensuring a comfortable and conducive testing environment. Unlike a conventional testing room, the test-taker completed the exam while seated on the floor without a chair or table to better accommodate their physical comfort.
PAPS facilitator Larasgunita, S.Psi., explained that test arrangements for participants with disabilities are tailored to each individual’s needs. Before the exam, participants typically contact UPAP or UGM’s Disability Services Unit (ULD UGM) to coordinate the necessary accommodations.
So far, PAPS for test-takers with disabilities has only been available in person to ensure the test runs smoothly. In addition to adjustments to the equipment and testing room, test instructions are still delivered synchronously via Zoom Meeting.
“We try to accommodate their needs by determining whether adjustments to the device or additional instructions are necessary. The test is generally still conducted in person so that we can ensure everything runs smoothly. Therefore, online PAPS testing is not yet available for participants with disabilities,” Laras explained.
PAPS test-taker Anis Rahmatillah said the support provided during the exam had been adequate and suited to her needs.
“During the test, I felt adequately accommodated by being given a separate room and being allowed to sit on the floor. UPAP also took the initiative to provide a dedicated room,” Anis said.
Anis also recommended that contact information and available accommodations be explained in greater detail on the PAPS registration website. She noted that providing this information would help people with disabilities register for and take the PAPS test.
The UGM Faculty of Psychology’s UPAP is committed to ensuring equal access to psychological testing and assessment services for everyone by developing more inclusive PAPS services through ongoing evaluation and collaboration with ULD UGM.
