International Summer Course CICP 2026 Explores Solidarity from a Global Perspective

The Center for Indigenous and Cultural Psychology (CICP), Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), organized the International Summer Course CICP 2026 from August 3–8, 2026. Under the theme “Understanding Solidarity in the Global South: Cultural and Psychological Perspectives,” the program explored the formation of solidarity within Global South communities through social and cultural psychology perspectives.

CICP Organized Theory Building Training (TBT) Advance

The Center for Indigenous and Cultural Psychology (CICP) again organizes the Theory Building Training (TBT). CICP takes the theme of Theory Building Training (TBT) Advance: “How to Writing Up Qualitative Research”. This event is a continuation of the previous TBT implementation of the intermediate scale. The goal is slightly different from the previous TBT type where the focus is no longer one of the qualitative approaches to which at that time is discussed about grounded theory. But TBT this time more focused on how to write qualitative research.

Held on 25 to 26 October 2019, participants in the majority of TBT are students, both masters, and doctoral students. But also many of them are practitioners or lecturers. About 15 attendance were presently filled the room A-214. Present in TBT training is Edilburga Wulan Saptandi, M. Psi., Psychologist and Dr. Wenty Mari Minza, M.A. the event was held for two days from the early morning to the afternoon.

TBT is maintained not only in the form of material only, but also filled with participants demanded to apply the material that has been submitted. TBT is divided into two sessions. Session One includes explanations on how to write qualitative research, then also styles in writing. The Committee also gives the participants the opportunity to receive feedback from the speaker. While on the second-day participants were asked to present the results of what they had written before.

CICP Workshop to Provide Researchers in Publications

Center for Indigenous and Cultural Psychology (CICP) Faculty of Psychology again held workshops. This Workshop was themed in publication. The Workshop was a researcher from the Centre for Cultural Psychology of Aalborg University, Denmark, Luca Tateo, Ph.D., and Giuseppina Marsico, Ph.D. The event was held from 8 a.m. to evening and lasted two days on Thursday and Friday, precisely on the 17th and 18th of October 2019. Located in building A-214, Workshop was attended by the lecturer, Doctoral Program Student, and Magister. CICP has also invited students from undergraduate programs. But the participants who dominate are the Doctoral Program Students who are in the process to become the first writers. The direction of this Workshop actually provides opportunities for the first writers in his research or the second writer who is doing the writing process.

On the first day, the event starts from the discussion of the first session, which focuses on brainstorming the journal article Writing on Culture and Psychology, after the opening session of the CICP director expires. The speakers are trying to be a peer reviewer to accommodate the needs of consulting in publications and research in the field of Culture and Psychology. Participants are also asked to explain their research or various obstacles faced either in terms of writing content or technical writing. The first day closes with sessions three and four up to close on the first day.

On the second day, the first draft entered was discussed by the speakers, followed by feedback and discussion. The final session with the speaker is filled with reviews back from the materials that have been submitted.

Faculty of Psychology to host The 10th International Conference on Indigenous and Cultural Psychology (ICICP)

Faculty of Psychology at Gadjah Mada University held an international conference. This conference was titled The 10th International Conference on Indigenous and Cultural Psychology (ICICP). The conference lasted for 3 days which was 4 to 6 July 2019. The conference was livened up by speakers from various countries and universities, among others: Prof. Subandi from the Faculty of Psychology at Gadjah Mada University; Prof. Uichol Kim of Inha University, South Korea; Prof. Rosnah Ismail of Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences & UMS, Malaysia; Prof. Annamaria Di Fabio of the University of Florence, Italy; Prof. Donald H. Saklofske from the Department of Psychology University of Western Ontario, Canada; Prof. Saadi Lahlou from Social Psychology of Economic Life London School of Economics, UK; Dr. Satoko Kimpara from Palo Alto University, USA; Maxi Heitmayer, Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science; Prof. Akira Tsuda of the Department of Psychology Kurume University, Japan, and Plinio Fabiani which is the Director of Internal Medicine Unit, Versilia Hospital. The Conference’s agenda set includes special courses, workshops, parallel symposium, and keynote address. Even more than 100 participants with interesting research topics are involved in this event.

On the first day, the term ICICP presents the Event Special Course on Indigenous and Cultural Psychology which was presented by Prof. Uichol Kim, Prof. Donald H. Saklofske, and Maxi Heitmayer, Ph.D. by taking place at A-203 Faculty of Psychology. Simultaneously workshops are also held but in different locations. The workshop itself themed Psychology of Leadership and Entrepreneurship in the XXI Century, Clinical Workshop of Systematic Treatment Selection (STS): 8 Principles and Therapeutic Tools (CBTs & Mindfulness), and Assessing Psychological Strengths and Well Being Cross-Cultural Adaptation.

The second day, the ICICP event is no less festive. The festivity has even been demonstrated when the beginning of the event, where the entire speaker appeared impressively using indigenous clothes typical of Nusantara. Opening Ceremony became the official start of the ICICP title. In addition, the event opened with a greeting from the chief executive, namely Wahyu Jati Anggoro, S. Psi., M.A., and Prof. Kwartarini Wahyu Yuniarti, MMedSc., Ph.D. As Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Psychology. The cultural appearance of both music and dance is also one of the parts that add to the event. The event continued with keynote addresses and research presentations from the participants.

While the third day is the closing day of ICICP, it remains filled with several keynote addresses from experts in their field as well as the participants ‘ performances in presenting their research results. After that, the event was closed with a cultural offering in the form of dances that witnessed the success of events.
