Michael Robert Alvianto Tanoso, a student of the Faculty of Psychology UGM 2018, managed to boast of a proud achievement of the international level match “The 14th University of Technology Mara International Sports Fiesta” 2019, organized by University of Technology Mara in Selangor, Malaysia. Michael and the team of tennis field UGM managed to win the runner-up in teams category.
The 14th University of Technology Mara International Sports Fiesta is a student competition in the field of sports. This competition organizes inter-college sports events such as tennis, futsal, rugby, badminton, bowling, table tennis, and many other types of sports. This year, The 14th University of Technology Mara International Sports Fiesta was held from 30 July to 4 August 2019. In Selangor, Malaysia, this event was attended by various Universities both within and outside Malaysia. In the field Tennis branch, the categories that are identified include the singles of Men/ Women, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
Student Activities Unit of the Universitas Gadjah Mada participated in a team match by sending teams of 8 members consisting of 4 students of Deo Gustirandra P., Michael Robert A. T., Dicho Dickita Handoko., and Rifki Zidan., as well as 4 women students Ni Made Nindya Desivyana, Safira Anandhita inscription, Sonya Windi Kusuma, and Luvina Yudha Wiranti.
In the field Tennis branch, team matches are played with the “Best of 5 Match” system where each team is required to win 3 out of 5 numbers contested to be deemed victorious against the opponent’s squad. The match system also divides all the universities competing into 2 groups, where each group is sought after champions and runners-up to be represented in the semifinals and final to determine the champion.
In the group stage, UGM was associated with the University of Indonesia, Universitas Airlangga, and UiTM A from Malaysia. UGM managed to beat the UI with a landslide score of 4-1. The decisive victory was also achieved when UGM fought UNAIR with a score of 5-0. The fierce resistance must be faced by the UGM squad against UiTM A to determine the champion and runner-up group A. Each category is contested in both men’s and women’s singles, men’s and women’s doubles, and blends are fun and thrilling. As a result, UGM succeeded to win with a score of 3-2.
In the semi-finals, UGM faced a runner-up of group B, Mapua University from the Philippines. The university is a semifinalist on the UISF 2018. The game takes place very fun and dramatic. The event was very laborious for the athletes of both parties because the semifinals lasted from 15.00 to 19.00. UGM also won a victory with a thin score of 3-2. In the final round, UGM met with UNY. This final game lasts long and exciting also like the semifinals experienced by UGM. Unfortunately, UGM had to accept the defeat with a score of 2-3. UGM squad must be satisfied with the runner-up on UISF 2019 this time.
“This match brings a lot of positive dynamics for me and the UGM team in teamwork and mentally struggling. The achievement that we achieve is also pride as well as a meaningful lesson for our team to go to future success, “said Michael.
