Prof. Drs. Subandi, M.A., Ph.D., Psychologist is a prominent academic at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada. (UGM). He has a strong educational background, holding a Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Adelaide, Australia, which he obtained in 2006 with a dissertation titled “Cultural Dimensions of Recovery from Psychotic Illness in Java.” Previously, he completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). In 2015, his professorial inauguration was titled “Mental Health in the Perspective of Culture and Religion.”

Professor Subandi’s expertise encompasses various fields in psychology, including psychological methodology, design and analysis, the psychology of religion, as well as health, clinical, and counseling psychology. His research interests focus on community mental health, indigenous psychology, mental illness, as well as psychology and religion. Prof. Subandi is active in research groups that examine the relationship between culture and psychopathology, mental health, and spirituality.

Throughout his career, he has received various prestigious scholarships, including from AIDAB, the Freeman Fellowship Program at Harvard University, and the Senior Fogarty Fellowship Program. Prof. Subandi is also involved in international professional associations such as Cross Cultural Psychology and the International Early Psychosis Society, as well as the national association HIMPSI. With his extensive experience and expertise, Prof. Subandi makes significant contributions to the development of psychology in Indonesia, particularly in the context of culture and mental health.
