Student of Psychology Won Top 5 on International Conference Model United Nations
Maria Gracia Amara Pawitra, Bachelor degree student Faculty of Psychology UGM become one of the delegation in International Model United Nations (MUN). This conference already running on 21-23 February 2019 in British University Vietnam, Hanoi. Most of 300 delegations with the number of delegations each of them about 50 students from each council that taken this program.
International Model United Nations is International Diplomatic Conference as miniature UN conference. Maria be the delegation from Indonesia in the International Model United Nations Hanoi 2019 in The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and The Empowerment of Women (UN Women) council- an organization under United Nation aim to encourage gender equality and empowerment of women in all of the world, as an effort to attain United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 5 (SDGs 5)
In this conference, Maria responsible give diplomatic to the country of United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland with the huge topic, is Representation of Women in the Politics and Economy and Addressing the issues of violence and trafficking of women globally.
Maria explains, “actually my decision to sign up this conference not easy decision because my knowledge about citizenship and policy can be said amateur because I never get formal education about this field and just compile part of part knowledge through books that I read in free time. However, finally I establish my self to sign up UN Women Council in international MUN because my big attention in the field of gender equality and I feel intervention and learned knowledge-Psychology-has important role in that issue, suddenly ignored”.
More things that have to Maria preparing before attending International MUN, start from Diplomatic matter to learn speaking ways and diplomatic must be finished on 2 weeks and writing a position paper that must she work on 2 days. “I was panicked because of my lack of time and knowledge, but as Carl Jung said” in all chaos, there is cosmos, a secret order in all disorder “I was still struggling to maximize everything with all the minimalities that exist”, said Maria.
Maria as a delegation who represent United Kingdom was diplomated to fight current policy to support gender equality which does not violate the essence of equality itself by increasing capability and rights of women without violating other gender rights.
For her extraordinary diplomation, Maria got best 5 delegate and best 5 position paper with 0 % plagiarism and got the highest point for foreign policy which was 9.00 with total score 86.67
I am grateful for everything I experienced. For me, this was not my personal achievement but this was ours because I know without Psychology UGM, I would not be here and share this experience. In addition, in this case for me, the biggest achievement is not when we get any rank, but when we have and use the opportunity for speaking up their opinion, to the world. Silence is not always golden because your voice does matter”, she said.
