(24/04) Center for Public Mental Health of Faculty of Psychology UGM held an online public lecture at 08.00-10.00 WIB. The topic is about Family Strengthening in Crisis Situation. The aim of the event is to educate the audience about family strength during this pandemic situation. Dr. John DeFrain from University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA had the opportunity to become a speaker for this event.
This session was held through webex and attended by almost 700 audiences from various institutes, such as LIPI and BKKBN. Also, psychology students from master and international undergraduate program was following this event. Besides, the are some lecturers from Faculty of Psychology UGM joining this online event as well. Prof. Dr. Tina Afiatin, M.Si, Psikolog was joining as a guest.
Dr. Diana Setyawati, M.HSc., Psikolog as chief of CPMH open the session with greetings, followed by lecture from Dr. John DeFrain. He delivered learning material about family strengthening. There are six main keys in order to achieve or keep strong family, which are affection, positive communication, commitment, time together, spiritual well-being, shared values and the ability to face crisis together. Those factors are complementing each other, and didn’t work as hierarchy. For instance, if the family have a positive communication, it will be easier to show affection toward each other.
The audience also have the opportunity to ask some questions, which written in specific forum. Next, the question will be deliver by Dr. Diana Setyawati, M.HSc., Psikolog who have a role as a moderator as well.
During this situation, it is important for family to keep the positive communication toward each other and implementing the six factor. From facing the challenge together, the family will grow and become stronger family.
