The Special Region of Yogyakarta offers many tourist attractions, such as its culture, art, nature, food, and also, education. Yogyakarta is known to be a student city, and our faculty is among the top picks for educational tourism. Each year, the faculty is visited by more than 25 schools from various cities in Indonesia.
In the beginning of March 2018, the faculty hosted four high schools. Three of them came at the same time, on March 5. Those high schools were SMA Negeri 3 Lumajang, SMA Negeri 2 Kediri, and SMA Negeri 2 Cibinong, totalling to 230 student visitors. Then, 100 students from SMA KORPRI Bekasi visited on March 9. In G100, Dr. Esti Hayu Purnamaningsih, M.S., the Head of the Undergraduate Program, along with other lecturers, psychologists, and academic staff welcomed the students. For two hours, students were free to ask about the admission process and academic climate in the faculty, as well as psychology in general as a discipline and the career opportunities for psychology graduates.
Agus Riyanta, one of the academic staff, explained the truths about issues going around. He explained that the faculty does not give any kind of preferential treatment or special quota for local students, and that the faculty accepts both students who majored in Natural Sciences as well as students from Social Sciences in high school. Regarding tuition fees, if the sum of both of a student’s parents is less than Rp 750.000,00 after divided by the number of family members, it means that student is eligible to apply for the Bidikmisi scholarship. He also stated that the university does not collect any other type of fee that is not listed on the site http://um.ugm.ac.id”.
The students, who on average were high school juniors said that they got inspiration and more knowledge about psychology. Some of them also said that they are interested to apply for college here the following year.
