Social Psychology Perspective on Understanding COVID-19

(6/11) Center for Indigenous and Cultural Psychology (CICP) Faculty of Psychology UGM held online webinar at 1.00 – 3.00 PM.

The event was divided into 3 sessions. The first session was addressed about Social Perception of Covid 19 Pandemic: Continuities and Changes, delivered by Dr. Wenty Marina Minza, S.Psi., M.A., lecturer in Faculty of Psychology UGM. She conveyed about the importance of understanding social perceptions to understand the pandemic in Indonesia. In particular, the that concepts used to understand the public’s perception are how they percieved risk and their optimism. Furthermore, the session also discuss about collective culture and also the positive and negative sides of percieving the current pandemic.

This is in line with the next discussion about Prevention and Optimism that taught by the second speaker, Prof. Dr. Faturochman, M.A, who is also the Dean of Faculty of Psychology UGM.

In the third session, the topic was called Making sense of the Covid-19 Pandemic Between Fear and Hope. The material delivered by Luca Tateo, Ph.D, from the Dept. of Special Needs of Education, University of Oslo. He conveyed that fear and hope are one of the basic mechanisms that human have in every civilization, and how they deal with uncertainty is also a matter that linked with this current pandemic situation.

The session that attended by 345 participants from varied background was closed with discussion session that lead by the moderator.
