Sharing Session: Alternative Research during Covid-19 Pandemic

Friday (4/9), Master of Psychological Science Program held online sharing session in order to answer the inform the students who doing their thesis or plan to do their thesis in the near future about the alternative in doing psychological research during Covid-19 pandemic. The event was organized by Psychological Students Association of Faculty of Psychology UGM. The topic was about The Use of Secondary Data, Social Media Big Data and Online Experiments.

The session was held at 08.30 – 10.30 AM and attended by 135 participants, started with short opening speech from Bhina Patria, S.Psi., M.A., Dr. rer. pol. as Head of Master of Psychological Science Program, the session then continued with presentation from the speakers which are students from Faculty of Psychology as well as alumni from Master of Psychological Science Program and Professional Psychology Program UGM.

The first material was delivered by Dian Fakhrunnisak, M.A. alumni of Master of Psychological Science Program UGM. She share a topic about secondary data from Indonesian Family Life Survey (IFLS) as the alternative data to use for Thesis. She conveyed, “This can become one of the option during the pandemic, because we don’t have to meet the subject directly”.

Furthermore, the next presentation delivered by Rojihah, M.Psi., Psikolog, alumni of Professional Psychology Program UGM about Tracer Study UGM data; continued with material from Fidza ‘Azimatul ‘Aqilah, S.Psi, student of Master of Psychological Science Program about AJT CogTest data from UPAP; Itsna Mawaddata, S.Psi., M.A, alumni from Master of Psychological Science Program about Big Data Social Media; and Talitha R. Gati students from IUP about online experiment. She explain about the text based humor stimulus for her undergraduate thesis.

Those are some of the example of secondary data source that can be used by students for their Thesis. It is hoped that this session can add new perspectives for students regarding options for conducting research during the pandemic.

After material session, participants have the opportunity to discuss further with the speakers in question and answer session that guided by moderator.
