Research Knowledge Sharing: Patterns of Development of Prosocial Behavior and Moral Motives in Children and Adolescents

UGM Psychology Undergraduate Study Program on Friday (6/8) held the event “Research Knowledge Sharing: Patterns of Development of Prosocial Behavior and Moral Motives in Children and Adolescents” was presented by Sutarimah Ampuni, S.Psi., M.Psi. Not only alone, Sutarimah also conducted this research together with Sukmo Bayu Suryo R., Gesta Aulia Nisa, and Firyal Nur Karimah. “The title displayed on the poster is a bit different from the one I will explain, but in essence what I explained is essentially the same, namely the pattern of prosocial development,” explained Sutarimah.

This research was conducted with the background by humans as social beings who cannot be separated from interacting with other people, especially when they are facing difficulties. In addition, Indonesia as a collectivistic country also has a culture of mutual cooperation which is a very important character and must be maintained. In addition to being a culture, gotong royong is also a form of prosocial activity

Prosocial can be interpreted as voluntary behavior that is beneficial to others and aims to build harmonious relationships in the environment. In addition, prosocial growth is a key component of human social development that helps individuals to integrate and contribute to society.

There are several things that become prosocial factors, one of which is widely referred to as contextual factors. Contextual factors are related to the socialization of values โ€‹โ€‹in the family, community, and society. In addition, there are four other things that act as prosocial aspects, including comforting, helping, sharing, and cooperating.

The purpose of the research conducted by Sutarimah this time is to see the overall pattern of prosocial behavior, both in urban and rural areas. Through this study, Sutarimah suspects that prosocial behavior in urban areas is higher than in rural areas.

There are two interesting things found by this study, namely the aspect of sharing which decreases in subjects aged 7-9 years and then increases again with age and the aspect of comforting in women which is higher than that of male subjects.
