Psikologi Rumah Kita, A New Beginning for 2017 Freshmen

On Wednesday (8/9), the hall of UGM Psychology’s Building D was filled with new students (referred on campus as Gadjah Mada Muda) that are going to participate in the orientation program called PPSMB PRK (Pelatihan Pembelajar Sukses Mahasiswa Baru Psikologi Rumah Kita). PPSMB PRK welcomes new psychology majors to their new home, so that they can adapt and get to know their university as a new place of learning. This yearly event lasts for two days, on August 9 – 10, 2017. As many as 222 students will experience PPSMB PRK, 185 students are from the regular program and 37 of them are from the international program. Eighteen of the students from the regular program are recipients of bidik misi.

PPSMB PRK this year holds the theme “Siap Berkarya” with values of nationalism and global competence. Those values are reflections that show how students have to prepare themselves for global competition without forgetting who they are as Indonesians. With the tagline “Adya Saka”, PPSMB PRK encourages students to actively contribute in advancing Indonesia.

The first day of PPSMB PRK started at 7 a.m., and it began with many preparations like Tabik Gelora, Kepemanduan, and an opening ceremony led by Prof. Dr. Faturochman, M.A., who is the dean. The first day consists of 4 sessions: Session 1 (Awali Kiprahmu), Session 2 (Psikologi Rumah Kita), Session 3 (Kefakultasan), and Session 4 (Sumbangsih untuk Negeri). The faculty’s staffs were also involved in those sessions. The first day ended with a game called “Integrasikan Diri” and a moment for self-reflection with the students’ groups.

The next day also had four sessions that started with Session 5 (Perintis Harapan), Session 6 (Pioneer Asia), Session 7 (Sahabat Masyarakat), and ended with Session 8 (Pelita Asa Indonesia). There were also outdoor activities to prevent students from getting bored. The second day ended with an awarding ceremony called PRK AWARDS, led by the vice dean of students, Dr. Nida Ul Hasanat, M.Si.

Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Faculty of Psychology hopes that new students can be more ready and prepared in going through their studies after participating in PPSMB PRK. Hopefully they can all understand the important role they have as university students, to be agents of change for a better Indonesia. [Dita]
