On Ahad, November 20, 2016, at about 07.45 a.m., Prof. Dr. Sri Mulyani Martaniah, MA., who is one of the eight pioneers of Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Faculty of Psychology has passed away and gone home to Rahmatullah. Almarhumah passed in the age of 87 years, 2 months, and 24 days at a funeral home in Jalan Mrican Baru 15, Catur Tunggal, Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Her remains are buried in Sawitsari Cemetary on November 21, 2016 at 10.00 a.m. after a last ceremony honoring her in UGM’s Balairung at 09.00 a.m.
Almarhumah was born in Klaten on August 28, 1929. She went to elementary school in Klaten in 1943; went to SPG in Yogyakarta in 1948; went to SMA Bag. A in Yogyakarta in 1953; obtained a Bachelor’s degree from UGM’s Faculty of Pedagogy in 1961; obtained her Master of Art degree from Michigan State University, USA, in 1970; and she obtained her doctorate degree from UGM’s Faculty of Psychology in 1982. She started working as a Tk. II (F2.I) assistant in IKIP Yogyakarta’s Faculty of Education in August 1, 1959, and became a Professor Emerita since May 1, 1995. Almarhumah has served as Dean in UGM’s Faculty of Psychology for four periods; in 1973-1975, 1975-1977, 1988-1991, and 1991-1995.
One of her achievements is her inaugural speech “The Role of Community Psychology in Overcoming Mental Health Disorders” on July 1985. Her other published works include: 1) Martaniah, S.M., 1982. Three Social Motives of Javanese and Chinese descent. Doctoral Dissertation; 2) Martaniah, S.M., 1984. “Social Motives of Minangkabau, Batak, and Malay Student: A Cross Cultural Study”. Research Report; 3) “Technique and Interview in Counseling” in Basic Material for the Guidance and Counseling Education Program in University, Book II B. Methods and Technique of Guidance and Counseling Ministry of Education and Culture; Directorate-General of Higher Education 1984/1985.
The awards she has achieved are: 1) Loyalty Award of 25 Years Serving Universitas Gadjah Mada in 1984; 2) Satyalencana Token of Honor Karya Satya Kelas I from the President of Indonesia in 1991; 3) Sewaka Wiraya Roha Award, Directorate-General Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, National Education Department, in 2007; 4) An award for her role as one of the founders of UGM’s Faculty of Psychology, Dean’s Decree, in 2015.
All members and academicians of Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Faculty of Psychology wish their deepest condolences.
