Pengen Ngobrol: The Journey & Career In Industrial & Organizational Psychology

Pengen Ngobrol, online activity which aimed to enrich about career perspective in Psychology, once again held on Saturday, September 26, 2020. The event that collaborate with Office of Cooperation, International Affairs and Alumni (OCIA) Faculty of Psychology UGM, raised career in Industrial and Organizational Psychology as the topic for this session.

Fajar Widhi S., HR Consultant & Practitioner and alumni of Faculty of Psychology UGM Class of 2007 as well as Khusni Mustaqim, Human Resources Business Partner and alumni of Faculty of Psychology UGM Class of 2008 had the opportunity to become the speaker for this event.

The session was attended by 100 participants via Zoom Meeting and broadcasted live at Kanal Pengetahuan Fakultas Psikologi Universitas Gadjah Mada Youtube Channel.

Fajar opened the first sharing session by share his experiences in pursuing career in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. He also provides perspective about working life and important things that need to be possessed by workers, job seekers and prospective job seekers. According to Fajar, the ability to adapt in work setting is very important, by adapting, people will be able to develop themselves and exist in the working environment. He further explained, “learning agility is very important, and must be adaptive to the needs demanded by the market”.

Furthermore, Khusni, the second speakers explain his perspective about the importance of having the drive to continue to develop and learn. During college, he explained that he was generally interested in social psychology subjects, but after working in the industrial field, the perspective from social psychology actually supported him in work, so it is important for us not to divide the knowledge, learn as many things as possible, because it will support us later on. He also explained about the general divisions in organization, which are HRDP, Recruitment, Learning & Development, Industrial Relations, Remuneration & Payroll, Organization Development, HRIS and General Affairs. However, these positions or divisions can be different in each organization, depending on each organizational needs.

After the sharing session by the two speakers, the session was continued by question and answer session that guided by the moderator.

This event is hope to provide the explanations and experiences that shared by the speakers about career options in Industrial & Organizational Psychology further.
