Saturday (20/3) Office of Cooperation, International Affairs, and Alumni (OCIA), Faculty of Psychology UGM held an event to Chat: Challenges of the Psychology Profession in the Industrial 4.0 era. This event is a part of Career Talk series held by OCIA by inviting alumni of the Faculty of Psychology UGM who have had careers in the real world of work.
The event started from 09.00 WIB to 11.30 WIB. Participants of the event are students of the UGM Faculty of Psychology. The event can also be accessed via YouTube streaming of the Faculty of Psychology UGM Knowledge Channel.
In the first session, the event was filled with speakers Cucus Musa Al Aziz S.Psi., M.A. He is a graduate majoring of the UGM Master of Psychology with a specialization in Industrial and Organizational Psychology who currently serves as the HC & OS Senior Staff of Pertamina EP. In this presentation, he shared his experiences while in the real work field. He told of his career journey from Jakarta to Tanjung Pinang, South Kalimantan.
As a graduate majoring of the psychology department, it certainly opens opportunities for various professions in the real work place. The knowledge and research skills gained in lectures will be of great use, especially if the job is related to human behavior. However, Musa also advised not to be reluctant to learn new things so that it is easier to adapt to the demands of the world of work, one of which is learning about the field of law.
“Maybe my friends will learn a lot about related regulations, for example Law number 13 of 2003 regarding manpower and its derivatives and so on,” Cucus said.
Cucus also explained the various fields of work that Pertamina has. Each work field has different tasks and functions but complementary each other. One of them is the HR analyst field.
“Yes, you can maintain data on field workers, problems or industrial environmental relations, then make outsourcing contracts or supporting service workers, then mapping training needs with functions in the field and also internal events in the field,” Cucus said.
In the second session, the Career Talk event was filled by Zia Ayu Lintang Andini S.Psi., Who is also a graduate of the psychology department at the UGM Faculty of Psychology. He is currently pursuing a career at PT Gramedia Digital Nusantara as a UX Researcher.
UX Researcher is a very “millennial” profession because this profession only emerged when the digital world had become a daily necessity for almost all people. This is indicated by the increasing number of gadget users who are connected to the internet network and carry out various activities in it including shopping online. The UX Researcher profession appears in a digitalized environment.
Ayu explained that the UX Researcher is here for customers to be able to use the website application to access the company’s products smoothly, easily and efficiently. Of course this is very important for the progress of the company where trade competition has begun to shift to the digital world as more and more people prefer to shop online. This is related to the level of satisfaction from customers.
“I usually research about their daily life, about their interactions with other people, about their interactions with technology, which then I get that insight into their behavior, their daily lives, and so on to be implemented later in products. it is so that these products can be used by people easily and with fun. Like that, the description of UX is like that” Ayu said.
According to Ayu, the knowledge and experience she gained while studying in the psychology department were very useful in her workplace, especially research skills and understanding customer decision making which were studied in basic psychology and cognitive psychology courses.
The event was very interactive. Some participants who were curious about the twists and turns of the world of work for psychology graduates in the 4.0 era actively asked questions and answers at the end of the event. The committee of the event hopes that this event can answer the participants’ concerns about possible employment opportunities for them to choose after graduating from college.
