On Saturday (24/3), the Faculty of Psychology along with the Parents’ Asssociation, known as Persatuan Orangtua Mahasiswa Psikologi (POTMAPSI) held a meeting for parents of students from Year 2017, an event for them to meet and also consult the academic records of their children. This is a yearly event for the freshmen’s parents/guardians. It was held in G-100 Auditorium on 8.30 am until 1 pm. The event started with an opening speech from the dean, Prof. Dr. Faturochman, M.A., who addressed the many activities and achievements of our students, nationwide and internationally. He also expressed his gratitude to POTMPAPSI, as they are always very supportive towards the students’ academic studies and also their endeavors in numerous competitoins and scientific conferences, both in the national and international level.
After the opening speech from Prof. Faturochman, POTMAPSI also gave a speech and explained their plans to the parents of 2017 students. Then, interestingly, this year’s meeting also brought out a talkshow with the title “Menjadi Orangtua untuk Generasi Zaman Now” (Becoming Parents for this Generation) led by Dr. Neila Ramdhani, M.Si., M.Ed. The parents seemed very enthusiastic and followed through the talkshow. Then, after it, the faculty and POTMAPSI also gave awards to 10 students who achieved the highest GPAs on their first semester. This year’s top students are: Anak Agung Ayu Apsari Darmesti (4.00 GPA), Nadine Salsabila Sjuhada (3.95 GPA), Muhammad Zaki Afif Zainurrahman (3.90 GPA), Theodora Swasti Sekarwuni (3.90 GPA), Rizma Rahmayanti (3.89 GPA), Talitha Rucira Gati (3.89 GPA), Andreas Nugahita (3.88 GPA), Inez Lyvia Devi (3.88 GPA), Nadya Andhita (3.88 GPA), and Nissa Corlidea (3.88 GPA).
Students from the faculty’s karawitan community, known as Paguyuban Karawitan Mahasiswa gave a performance of Gending-Gending Jawa. Parents were intrigued by the performance, and seemed to really enjoy it. At the end of the event, parents were given the chance to participate in an interactive dialogue regarding student affairs and academics information, led by the Head of the Undergraduate Program, Dr. Esti Hayu Purnamaningsih, MS and Ardian Praptomojati, M.Psi., Psikolog, as Second Vice Assistant of Student Affairs. Before the closing of this event, parents were also given the opportunity to directly meet and consult with their children’s academic advisors.
The event went well and left a positive impression to the parents and guardians of the students. Not a few of them said that with events like this parents and guardians will know more about what their students are experiencing and their lives here, so they feel they shouldn’t be worried about them. They all hoped for their sons and daughters’ success in their college experience here in UGM Psychology, because they believe Gadjah Mada University’s Faculty of Psychology is the best choice for their children.
