KDM: Theory Building in Psychological Science

Promovendus Club (PC) Doctor of Psychological Science Program, Faculty of Psychology UGM held biweekly coloquioum (KDM) on Friday, August 28, 2020. The event was started at 09.30 AM to 11.30 AM via Zoom Meeting and attended by 120 participants.

The session was started with short opening from Rahmat Hidayat, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D. as the Head of Doctor of Psychological Science Program and continued with presentation from the speaker.

Abdul Hakim, Ph.D., alumni of Faculty of Psychology UGM had the opportunity to become the speaker. He is currently one of the Lecturers of the Psychology Study Program, FK UNS. The main topics of his presentation are (1) how psychological theory is built; (2) how to think theoretically and (3) is it possible that psychological theory was born in Indonesia?

Furthermore, Abdul Hakim, Ph.D. conveyed that a theory does not only have to emerge from rare deep thoughts, instead it may came from everyday phenomenon. Therefore scientist’s perspective have the important role in seeing this reality. He also emphasized the importance of having solid basic and logical ideas in making a theoretical framework. Analytical methods and techniques are further components that will support those solid logical ideas.

After the delivered the material, the event was closed with question and answer session that guided the moderator.
