KDM: Stigma and Discrimination During COVID-19

Promovendus Club (PC) from Doctor of Psychology Program once again held online Two-Week Colloquium (KDM) on Friday, November 20, 2020.

Ciptasari Prabawanti Ph.D, who currently a Rector of Cokroaminoto University Yogyakarta and is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology at Ahmad Dahlan University, had the opportunity to become the guest speaker at the KDM.

The topic that raised for the discussion was about Addressing and Mitigating Related-COVID-19 Stigma and Discrimination.

The event was opened with short speech from Nida Ul Hasanat, M.Si, Vice Dean of Academic, and Student Affairs and Rahmat Hidayat, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D. as the Head of Doctor of Psychological Science Program.

During her material, Ciptasari conveyed an overview about the stigma processing about COVID-19 in Indonesian society. “Because the disease is relatively new and out of control, and because most people afraid of something new, that is why Covid is is considered to be a thread and inflict the fear” she said.

Furthermore, she also explained about the design of interventions to overcome the stigma problem against COVID-19 patients, the ones who are still being treated and ones who have recovered. According to her, in designing interventions, it is important address the populations into group in order to determine the strategy and objectives of the intervention.

At the end, the event that attended by 40 participants from the general public and the UGM academic community, was closed with discussion session guided by the moderator.
