Having a brilliant career is the dream of a majority of people. But, huge effort is needed to achieve that. For that reason, Kapsigama (Keluarga Alumni Psikologi Gadjah Mada or Family of Gadjah Mada Psychology Graduates) held a Career Seminar on the 30th of March with the theme “One-day Seminar: Building Career with Character”.
Held in G100 auditorium at the Faculty of Psychology UGM, the seminar was open to high school students, undergraduates as well as postgraduates. The seminar was held between 09.00-14.00 WIB. Guest speakers were alumni of the Faculty currently working at PT Pelindo, M. Hamied Wijaya, Chiefy Adi Kusmargono and Nugroho Dwi Priyohadi.
In this event, M. Hamied Wijaya delivered his presentasion entitled “The Strategic Role of Industrial Psychology in building Port Businesses.” The presentation Hamied gave was based on his lengthy experience of working in ports. Besides giving an overview about port businesses and how the profession of psychology can contribute to business management, Hamied also explained what is needed to be prepared to be successful in your career. As the Director of Human Resources of PT Pelindo, Hamied explained that preparedness is needed not only as an individual but also preparedness as a contributor to the development of the organization. At the end of his presentation, Hamied mentioned the 4 characteristics of people that are selected in industries, two of them are showing good behaviors and mature, as well as able to live by the company’s values.
In his age of 37, Chief Ady Kusmargono was entrusted with the title of General Manager Port of Banten (PT Pelindo II) until now. In a very interesting presentation, Chief attempted to make the seminar attendees aware that Indonesia is not only rich in natural resources but also in very bright human resources. Unfortunately, these two resources are not enough to push Indonesia towards significant development, referring to the quality of sea ports and the high rate of unemployment. To face this, Chief shared information about the strategies that can be done to increase competitiveness in individuals and organizations.
Nugroho Dwi Priyohadi is currently the Senior manager for Human Resource Efficiency and Wellbeing at PT Pelindo III. Originally from Bantul, DIY, Nugroho introduced to the attendees to ports in Indonesia and PT Pelindo III. Nugroho also shared his knowledge on strategies of shaping human resource character, especially in PT Pelindo III. Towards the end of his presentation, Nugroho asked the attendees to imagine themselves in 10 years time. Afterwards, Nugroho uttered to the attendees that our life is made of choices and those choices are our own.
With this seminar, attendees are expected to prepare themselves as soon as possible, starteing as early as possible to build a bright career ahead. And when that has happened, when they have reached the height of their career, it is hoped that they will contribute back to their ‘home’ to share their experiences with current students, as has been done by these three wonderful speakers in this seminar.
