International Guest Lecture Series: COVID-19 and The Brain

Faculty of Psychology Gadjah Mada University held the first International Guest Lecture Series during this semester, and raised a topic called COVID-19 and The Brain.

This event was attended by total of 512 participants from undergraduate, IUP and Masters students of Faculty of Psychology UGM whose taking Biopsychology II and Neuropsychology class, as well as lecturers. It was held on Friday, October 9, 2020, at 07.30 – 09.10 AM via Zoom Meeting.

Prof. Elkhonon Goldberg, Ph.D., ABPP-CN, Clinical Professors of Neurology, New York University School of Medicine, had the opportunity to become the speaker at this event. He explain further about the effects of COVID-19 on the brain and mental health.

Furthermore, Prof. Elkhonon deliver about the neurological symptoms that appear on patients in various countries, such as Turkey, France, China and Spain. The symptoms are anosmia (reduced ability to smell) and ageusa (reduced ability to taste). In addition, he also conveyed that COVID-19 can also have an effect on long-term mental health conditions in the general public in the United States.

The event was closed with question and answer session and at the end, Galang Lufityanto, M.Psi., Ph.D, a Psychologist, as a representative from the Faculty of Psychology UGM expressed his hope to collaborate with sources in future research.
