The Doctor of Psychology Program together with the Ethics Commission of the Faculty of Psychology held a Research Ethics Seminar on Tuesday (11/01). The seminar was divided into two sessions with two different speakers. For the first session, Prof. Dra. RA Yayi Suryo Prabandari, M.Sc., Ph.D who delivered material on “Integrity and Research Ethics Involving Humans”. The seminar for the first session starts at 11.00 WIB and is held online via Zoom.
At the beginning of the event, it was opened first with remarks delivered by Edilburga Wulan Saptandari, S.Psi., M.Psi., Ph.D., Psychologist as Head of the Doctoral Study Program in Psychology. “Actually, this morning’s event is the first in a series of sessions of the Research Ethics Intensive Course which will be followed by a Research Ethics session for Child Participants and for Mental Health Research,” said Edilburga.
Through the material presented, Yayi explained several things, including academic integrity supporting ethics, basic principles of research ethics, research ethics guidelines in social research, and so on. “Research is a systematic study of education and data collection is also systematic. Systematic is based on scientific studies, “explained Yayi.
“When should we take care of research ethics? Before we enter the field,” Yayi continued. Precisely, when someone has made improvements after conducting a proposal seminar, then proceed with taking care of research ethics. Taking care of research ethics is carried out after the proposal seminar because it has received input and the emergence of various changes. Although later in the field, it is possible for changes to occur and require further adjustments.
“I first saw such a clear case of plagiarism since using a computer. Therefore, academic integrity must be upheld,” said Yayi. Good research is research that is carried out by applying academic integrity based on honesty. Apart from honesty, other things that are also included in academic integrity are trust, responsibility, respect, and truth.
According to Yayi, in managing research ethics, proper time planning is needed. This is needed so that the research series runs on time and in accordance with applicable research ethics.
