Guest Lecture Series “Industrial and Organizational Psychology”: Talent Management

Monday (31/5) the Faculty of Psychology, Gadjah Mada University again held an online lecture entitled “Industrial and Organizational Psychology”. This event is the 6th series as well as the last session of the Guest Lecture Series which has been going on since February 2021.

The event took place from 07.30 WIB to 09.30 WIB. Participants in this event reached 155 people, most of whom were final semester undergraduate students.

The speaker at this event was Indira Pratyaksa, Vice President of Corporate Culture and Business Partner – PT Pertamina (Persero). Indira has joined PT Pertamina since 2003 until now. In 2016, Indira also participated in the Leadership Program for Emerging Leaders with So, QUT – Australia Awards.

On this occasion, she graduated from the Master of Professional Psychology UGM in 2001 and presented a material entitled “Talent Management”. The three main points in her presentation were Pertamina at glance, talent management strategy, and the concept of talent management. From the presentation of the three points, participants were invited to understand more deeply, starting from the flow of the production process to Pertamina’s strategy in managing the talents of its employees.

In the first session, Indira explained what Pertamina was and how its production flow was. Participants were invited to get to know Pertamina more closely as a State-Owned Enterprise which is engaged in the energy business. Participants were also invited to understand the dynamics of the organization at Pertamina.

“Organizationally, Pertamina has just made a fundamental change. However, we hope that our delivery service will not decrease, but will focus more and more,” said Indira.

Furthermore, Indira also explained how Pertamina’s business processes started from upstream, midstream, to downstream. At the upstream level, Pertamina produces crude oil and electricity. Meanwhile, the midstream carries out the processing to become a variety of different products. While in the downstream related to marketing and trading.

“So we also do it for marketed to the public or exported to other countries. So, the downstream businesses will ensure the distribution,” explained Indira.

After understanding the complexity of Pertamina’s business processes, Indira entered into the talent management applied to the company. Indira explained how Pertamina increased the capacity and capability of each of its employees to match the job description for each position or level where the worker was placed. This is to ensure that all employees at Pertamina feel comfortable and are able to display their maximum performance in whatever sector they are placed in.

“So if we know the business process, we can partner with our work partners, with superiors in other functions, so that we can provide support that fits their needs, support that fits their business strategy,” explained Indira.

At the end of her presentation, Indira explained more about the concept of talent management at Pertamina. Several technical matters covered in this discussion include talent classification, career aspiration, individual performance management in the performance management system, competence overview, competence architecture, Pertamina leadership model & program, and the last is employee experience through HC digitalization.

In the question and answer session at the end of the event, participants interactively asked the presenters to get more in-depth information about talent management in the world of work, especially at Pertamina. The presenters also gave prizes to participants who managed to answer the questions well.

The event went smoothly. The speaker gave an overview of how talent management is in the world of work, especially at Pertamina. This is expected to provide motivation as well as an overview to the participants about what needs to be prepared in entering the world of work after graduating from college.
