On Tuesday (3/3), Lorraine Freedle, Ph.D., gave a lecture in Gadjah Mada University’s Faculty of Psychology. Dr. Freedle is a world-renown expert on Sand Play Therapy. The lecture took place in G-100, starting from 8 am. until 1 pm. All graduate students studying for their professional degree from Year 2014 were required to attend this lecture. Although this lecture was targeted for them, students from other Years were more than welcome to attend as well.
Dr. Neila Ramdhani, M. Si., M. Ed., was the Person in Charge for this guest lecture. She mentioned that the aim of events such as this is to enrich the knowledge of students regarding therapy techniques. “It’s so that when they graduate, they will master various methods,” she said. Moreover, Dr. Neila also expressed her expectation for more expansion of students’ research, saying, “They will also have a ‘supply’ for research, because this kind of approach is very good for research.”
Lala, one of the attendees, said that she was very pleased with this lecture. She thought that the material delivered was great, and Dr. Freedle’s way of lecturing was easy to understand. Lala hoped that she’d be able to implement the knowledge she got here in the future, and also hoped for more guest lectures like this.
Dr. Freedle said that she was happy with the enthusiasm of the attendees. The students were interested, friendly, engaged, and curious. She also appreciated the learning environment of the faculty. “I went around the faculty, and I feel that this is a safe place to study,” said Dr. Freedle. She also praised the academic environment, saying that the learning here is very ‘connected’.
The lecture closed with a photo session and the gifting of souvenirs. According to Dr. Neila, although the lecture has ended, the learning of Sand Play Therapy will continue to go on. “I plan to give additional classes for the students so they can practice more and deepen their understanding,” said Dr. Neila in closing.
