Center for Public Mental Health (CPMH), one of the units in Gadjah Mada University’s Faculty of Psychology held a Studium Generale with the theme “Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis: An Introduction“. It was held in Auditorium G-100 on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 from 13.30 to 15.00. The Studium Generale is part of the events to honor World Mental Health Day. Previously, CPMH has already held some events, such as Training for Trainers, Kulwap (Kuliah Whatsapp/Lecturing via Whatsapp), a national worksho, and a book launch.
This event was attended by about 70 people, and some people also became attendees online via webex. During the registration, attendees were asked to register online by filling up the form and choose whether or not they’d come in person or watch via webex. This event was open for public, but the organizers suggested that attendees have some background or knowledge in psychology so it would be easier to grasp the materials.
The speakers were Dr.Nynke Boonstra, a lecturer from NHL Stenden University of Applied Science and Prof.Dr.Marieke Pijnenborg, a professor in clinical psychology Groningnen University.
The two experts in psychosis explained about psychosis experiences, symptomps, and the different types of the disorder. Furthermore, they also explained about schizophrenia, regarding the stages, epidemiology, and risk factors. Both of them also shared their experiences about handling and caring for people with psychosis. Dr.Nynke Boonstra elaborated the handling of psychosis through nursing interventions, while Prof.Dr.Marieke Pijnenborg explained the psychological therapies that can be done to treat people living with it.
At the end of the session, attendees were asked to discuss one method to handle psychosis, which is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), from the analysis to the therapy process. (UGM Psychology PR/Jehna)
