Michael Robert A. T., a student of the Faculty of Psychology UGM, managed to donate 2 achievements from the tournament UGM Tennis Cup 2019. Michael won runners-up in the team category and gold medal in the men’s doubles category.
UGM Tennis Cup 2019 is an inter-university tennis tournament in Indonesia for both bachelor student and master students organized by the student activity Unit of Gadjah Mada University. The tournament contested five categories namely, the team, singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Tournaments followed by dozens of players from 11 universities in Indonesia are held on Tuesdays to Sundays (23/4 – 28/4) at the Lembah UGM Outdoor tennis court. This tournament takes place very competitively on the entire race category with the total prize reaching Rp 45 million.
Student Activities Unit of the University of Gadjah Mada attended team and individual team by sending two teams consisting of 4 students, Deo Gustirandra P., Michael Robert A. T., Iswandaru Kusumo Putro, Hernanda Melia Cholis on the squad of GMU A, as well as Dicho Dickita Handoko, Muhammad Aji Wiyuda, Ni Made Nindya Desivyana, and Rifki Zidan in the squad of UGM B. In addition to competing on the team’s number, all eight.
In the team category, Michael together with UGM A team managed to overthrow the University of Siliwangi, University of Education of Indonesia, and UNY B with a winning score. In the semifinals, UGM A succeeded in defeating Universitas Brawijaya fiercely. But in the final round, UGM A must be satisfied to receive defeat from UNY A with the difference of the score that is not linked much and exit as Runner-up.
In an individual category, Michael paired with Iswandaru Kusumo Putro followed the matches of the men’s doubles category. Exciting games have begun to occur in the round of 8 when competing against the students of Institut Technology 10 November, the couple Anggoro Diasdan Adi Asprila Akbar. The men’s doubles team successfully won the match with a score of 8-3. After winning the final quarter round of the game, the top pair of UGM entered the semifinal round.
In the semi-finals, the UGM pair competed with the students of the Yogyakarta State University, Deo Riesky Kurniawan, and Vistor Syapri Maulana, which was one of the flagship tennis players of his University. Through fierce resistance, the victory was finally achieved with a thin score of 8-6. In the final round, Michael and his partner Iswandaru have been awaited by other top couples from the Yogyakarta State University namely Afrizal Ivanisevic and Rafidhiya Mohammad. The final round was held on Sunday, April 28, 2019, This resulted in the pair of UGM Michael Robert A.T. and Iswandaru K. P. Become champions with quite fierce resistance of UNY pairs with a score of 8-5. Based on the match results in the final, Michael Robert A.T. and Iswandaru Kusumo P. Became the 1st Doubles champion of UGM Tennis Cup 2019.
