Oom wins 1st level National essay competition at UNY

Oom Qomariyah, students of the Faculty of Psychology UGM succeeded to win the first champion in a national level essay competition. This essay contest is organized by the Association of Religious Studies (HASKA) Faculty of MIPA, Yogyakarta State University. Taking the theme “Harmony of diversity to print superior generations of character in the era of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution” and several sub-themes of choice, participants were asked to choose one of these themes as the theme of the essay written.

Registration of participants and the collection of essay works carried out for three months from June to September 2019. The participants were students from various universities in Indonesia. At the initial selection stage, Oom was chosen to be the 10th finalist to then get the chance to advance to the next round for an essay presentation.

At the presentation stage, each finalist has the opportunity to convey his idea for 10 minutes to then continue the answer session with two judges. An OOM essay is presented with regards to a simple solution to the problem of bullying that occurs among Indonesian students. Oom’s presentation is able to amaze the jury to win the first champion and earn the Governor Trophy D.I.Y.

“Through the event of an essay contest, we can train the mind to be more critical and useful to reduce the problems that exist in the country. The science we get during the lecture has tremendous benefits if it can be applied to people’s lives. So, don’t be afraid to make the idea “said Oom to motivate other students to follow in his footsteps.
