Thursday (25/2) the second edition of the Guest Lecture Series “Industrial and Organizational Psychology” was held. This event is held by the Faculty of Psychology UGM, which in a series of events will bring in speakers from professionals who have experienced careers in the industrial field.
This event was held from 13.30 WIB to 15.30 WIB and was attended by approximately 170 participants, all of whom were students of the UGM Faculty of Psychology.
The presenters who filled the event this time were Triasta Teguh Nugroho, Senior Manager of Human Resources of PT Medco Power Indonesia. He brought material on recruitment and selection. In his presentation this time, the graduate of UGM Masters in Psychology shared his work experience as HRD and opened students’ insights about the dynamics of the world of work in the field of energy supply.
Medco Power Indonesia, a company with Medco Energy International, oversees three energy businesses, namely oil & gas, clean power and copper mining. During its development, this company requires a lot of manpower. The condition of the Covid-19 pandemic does not seem to have much influence on the condition of the company.
“In the next five years, Medco Power Indonesia is looking for workers and experts who support the work of this company. The workforce required is around 400 to 500 people. I salute where now everyone is lying down letting go of people, we are looking for people instead” said Triasta.
This is related to how the work management is carried out by the company. Medco Power Indonesia has built a human resource information system and made it a very important part of the company.
“My friends’ work is done digitally. In principle, the existence of Covid is not affected by us. Most of it we have done electronically,” continued Triasta.
Triasta also shared some of his experiences as HRD at PT Medco Power Indonesia and in several companies in various countries since 2000. He explained that accurate data is very important.
“One of the keys to the success of being a good HRD is how they can maintain employee data,” Triasta explained.
In procuring manpower, PT Medco Power uses two channels, namely internal and external. Internal routes include regeneration, non-regeneration and rotation systems. Meanwhile, the external route uses a build system for fresh graduates, buy to hire professionals, and borrow for secondees from other groups. Furthermore, Trista also explained the four points of PT Medco Power Indonesia’s criteria in finding employees, namely professional, ethical, open, and attractive.
Furthermore, Triasta also explained about how to manage human resources so that they are optimal and beneficial for both the employees themselves and the company. According to Triasta, the key for a company to be able to sustain is how the company manages knowledge management, that is, how senior experts pass on their experience to younger employees.
“Through internal hire, we hold training knowledge sharing mentored by the experts, and also how all the experts document their knowledge. We encourage (them) to be able to write”explained Triasta.
Triasta also explained that for a company to remain stable and continue to grow, it is not necessary for the company to depend on certain people to handle a job. In the sense that the company must be able to continue to rotate and produce experts within the company. This is where the role of HRD is very central as a supporting system in facilitating managers to change the formation and position of employees in their work team.
Triasta closed his material by giving messages to the participants to continue to develop both academic and communication skills and to understand the current labor laws. This will be very important and become an advantage in the world of work.
All event participants were very enthusiastic about participating in the guest lecture from the beginning to the end of the event. The organizing committee of the event is very happy that the event is running smoothly and hopes that it will be able to bring in speakers from other UGM alumni who are successful in the world of work and are willing to share their knowledge and experiences.
