Yogyakarta – Unit Pengembangan Kualitas Manusia (UPKM) of the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Potential Review activity for students of the Dentistry Profession Study Program, Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) UGM. This activity was carried out online via the Zoom platform and aimed to identify and map the potential of students as an initial step in forming dentists who are not only competent, but also professional and have high integrity. This potential review activity is the result of a strategic collaboration between UPKM and FKG UGM which has been closely established for the past few years. This collaboration is one of the real forms of UGM’s commitment to improving the quality of human resources, especially in the health sector, in line with the mission of higher education to produce graduates who are ready to answer global challenges.
Until this article was published, this year’s potential review had been carried out in two batches, namely on May 15 and June 17. The first batch was attended by 72 students and the second batch was attended by 74 students. Each participant underwent two stages of core assessment, namely a computer-based test (CBT) and an individual interview. Computer-based tests are conducted to explore cognitive and personality abilities, while individual interviews are conducted to assess aspects of motivation, professional ethics, and mental readiness of students in pursuing a dental profession. Therefore, this activity is not only aimed at evaluating students’ academic potential, but also to support self-development which is important for the dental profession.
Furthermore, this potential review activity is part of UGM’s contribution to supporting achievements including supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By producing qualified and professional dentists, UGM also strengthens efforts to improve the quality of public health services (SDG 3) and ensure access to quality professional education (SDG 4). This is also in line with UGM’s values as a people’s university that is oriented towards the benefits of knowledge for the wider community. In the future, this potential review activity is expected to continue to be held routinely and developed with various more comprehensive assessment innovations. Thus, UGM through FKG and UPKM is committed to continuing to support the birth of professional dentists who are not only excellent in academics, but also have social sensitivity and moral responsibility towards the health of the Indonesian people.
