UGM Psychology Students Won First Place in a Scientific Paper Competition

A Miracle of One Step Green Action for Our Environment was the theme proposed in 2018’s Psycompetition, held by the Medical Students Association in Universitas Lambung Mangkurat. The competition was one of the events to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the university’s psychology major. There are a few types of competitions, such as a movie-making competition called PsycoMovie, a poster design competition known as PsycoSign, an essay contest called PsycoSay, and a scientific paper competition referred here as LKTI. Registrations started on April 16, 2018. Psychology students from all around Indonesia showed great enthusiasm to participate in the competitions, including ones from our faculty.

Our students,  Muhammad Abdul Fikri (2014), Neng Wita Juwita Agustin (2017), and Shafira Anissa (2017) participated in LKTI, writing a paper titled “#ItStartsfromUs: Strategi Modifikasi Perilaku Penggunaan Kantong Plastik Pada Mahasiswa Berbasis Psikoedukasi (#ItStartsfromUs: Psychoeducation-based Behavior Modification Strategies in College Students’ Plastic Bag Usage”). The paper got them to the final round of the competition, that was held on August 1, 2018 – August 5, 2018 in the Banjar Baru campus. In the final round, each delegate were obligated to present their work in front of three judges and ULM students.

The announcement of the winners took place in the same time as the national seminar on August 4, 2018. Based on the points accumulated from the paper itself and also the presentation, our fine delegates won first place. The runner-ups were from  Universitas Mercu Buana Jakarta and the host university, Universitas Lambung Mangkurat.
