UGM Psychology Held Public Lecture of Forensic Psychology
Forensic Psychology is new field in Indonesia even in the world. Less country in the world does not recognize the profession of Forensic Psychology as an important profession. However, Forensic Psychology currently is really more needed especially in cases that are related by law and social justice.
The expert of Forensic Psychology from Maastricht University, Prof. Dr. Corine de Ruiter at public lecture in Auditorium G-100 Faculty of Psychology UGM has said that. The public lecture appointed theme “Forensic Psychology in law maintenance”. Approximately, 150 participant attended event that was implemented on Wednesday (30/1). This event was cooperation Faculty of Psychology UGM with Asosiasi Psikologi Forensik (APSIFOR).
Corine stated that Forensic Psychology is field that was linked to law. For instance court session, police, women and child protection would be usual matter which was faced by people on this field.
Forensic Psychology to be challenging field because the expert of Forensic Psychology must master in the field of law besides psychology such as constitution, understanding about the legal apparatus, having many references about scientific literature that was connected with crime, also must understand about forensic instrument and its using.
Working on the field of Psychology must be accompanied by high responsibility due to witnessess from Forensic Psychology can determine the fate of one’s life, whether individual was stated innocence then was punished or even not proven innocence by court. Therefore, that assessment comitted by forensic psychology must be extremely objective and kept confidentiality.” Corine said
Besides Prof. Dr. Corine de Ruiter, public lecture represented Nathanael E. J Summpouw, M.Psi., M.Sc, or more commonly known calling mas Nael, lecturer Faculty of Psychology Indonesia University and also the experts of Forensic Psychology Indonesia.
Nael explain that the role of Forensic Psychology in Indonesia start to be considered specifically help solving problem that was needed expert from the field of Psychology in court, and the Forensic Psychology as a representation.
In the last session, Nael persuaded for doing research in the field of Forensic Psychology. “ Indonesia necessities many researchs in Forensic Psychology. So, Indonesia has many experts of Forensic Psychology. Further to that many colleague willing for doing research together”. Said Nael (Public Relation Psychology UGM/ Jenha).
