Social Relations in Psychological Perspective: From Personal to Intergroup

Wednesday (4/8) to Friday (6/8) the Doctoral Study Program of Psychology, Faculty of Psychology UGM and the Competency-Based Curriculum (KBK) of Social Relations held a webinar with the title “Social Relations in a Psychological Perspective. The event which lasted for three days was part of learning in the Doctoral Program of the Faculty of Psychology UGM which discussed the latest developments in research in the field of social relations.

The event starts on Wednesday morning at 08.30 WIB and ends on Friday at 11.15 WIB. Each day there are two sessions with an allocation of 100 minutes each. There were 68 participants who registered in this event, most of whom came from the general public with various backgrounds.

The event was opened by the Head of the Psychological Science Doctoral Study Program, Rahmat Hidayat, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D. In his opening remarks, Rahmat explained the importance of opening this Social Relations class to the public.

“Hopefully we hope that there will be a broad exchange of ideas, there will be broad sharing of ideas for the benefit of all of us for the development of psychological science, especially related to research on social relations in our country,” said Rahmat.

On the first day, the course session was started by Prof. Dr. Faturochman, M.A. with the title of his presentation “Trusting the Trustworthines” which discusses how trust between groups is formed. Furthermore, in the next session, presented by Haidar Buldan Thontowi, S.Psi., M.A., Ph.D. with the title “The Narrative of the G30S PKI and its Implications on Social Perception” which examines how the polarization of twitter users in interpreting these historical events.

In the first session on the second day, Prof. Drs. Koentjoro, MBSc., Ph.D. Psychologists explain about “Social Change, Industrial Revolution 4.0 – 5.0, Mitigation and Preparing a Resilient Generation” which reviews the sources of social change that occurred from the Industrial Revolution in England to the Covid-19 Pandemic era. Furthermore, Dr. Avin Fadilla Helmi, M.Sc. and Wahyu Widhiarso, S.Psi., M.A. explain the differences in motivation and friendship patterns of social media users in each generation and the measurement of invariance in developing friendship scales on social networks.

Then on the last day, the speaker was Diana Setyawati, M.HSc.Psy., Ph.D. with the title of his presentation “Strong Families: Surviving the Pandemic Indonesia Experts, Perspective” which discusses the variables that make up the resilience of Indonesian families. The second session was filled by Dr. Wenty Marina Minza, M.A. with the title of his presentation “Social Relations and Context” which discussed a lot about the relationship between overseas students and the culture of their home region.

The event ran smoothly from start to finish. The event was closed by the chief executive Haidar Buldan Thontowi, S.Psi., M.A., Ph.D. The organizing committee plans to always be able to make knowledge sharing events with various themes and open to the public.
