Moving Forward with the New Dean

Thursday (8/9) marked the beginning of a change in Universitas Gadjah Mada Faculty of Psychology with the appointment of the new dean for the 2016-2021 period. The title had previously been held by Supra Wimbarti, M.Sc., Ph.D and was passed to the newly appointed dean Prof. Dr. Faturochman, M.A.

The appointment ceremony took place in Faculty of Psychology G100 Hall and was attended by teaching staffs, educational staffs, representatives of The Psychology Students Parents Committee (POTMAPSI) as well as The Gadjah Mada Psychology Alumni Association (KAPSIGAMA), and students. The occasion was opened by the reading of the Rector’s Decree, followed by the signing for the news of the ceremony, several speeches, and was ended by closing prayers. That the event was held in the afternoon did not diminish the audience’s enthusiasm of seeing it until the very end. The room was drowned by applauses, wholeheartedly welcoming the new dean who will be leading Faculty of Psychology for the next five years.

During her welcoming speech, Supra Wimbarti, M. Sc., Ph.D expressed her gratitude towards all academic members of Faculty of Psychology and invited guests. The relief and joy from finally finishing the programs and duties of the dean after four years was apparent on Supra’s face. Supra proceeded to thank all vice deans for their assistance and company, apologizing for all the mistakes that she may had made as the dean.

Supra closed her speech by congratulating Prof Dr. Faturochman, M.A for being chosen as the new dean. “Unlike the previous years, in this periode the chosen dean will sign 20 integrity pacts and will serve for a period of five years, which is a year longer than mine. May Mr. Fathur do his duty as the dean excellently,” ended the dean of 2012-2016 period.

Following this was the part the audience had been waiting for, which was a speech by the newly appointed dean for 2016-2021 period. In his speech Prof. Dr. Faturochman, M.A asked the audience to lend their hands in the continuing effort of improving Faculty of Psychology by having numerous discussions with senate, educational staffs, as well as the teaching staffs. “Let us walk hand-in-hand and build this institute together. First, to make Faculty of Psychology a part of our life and two, as a place in which we can grow, learn, and develop,” said Fathur.

Fathur added humor in his speech by teasing the educational staffs now and then, which successfully elicited laughs from the audience. Faturochman opened his tenure as the dean with delight, warmth, and levity that were able to create a sense of closeness within all of the Faculty of Psychology academic members. He hoped to create a workplace environment with a well-defined and fun culture and to advance together in the name of a better Faculty of Psychology.
