The Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) once again held its graduation ceremony for postgraduate programs alongside the professional oath-taking for psychologists of Academic Year 2024/2025, Term IV. A total of 44 graduates were officially released during the event held at Hall D of the Faculty of Psychology UGM on Wednesday (July 23). This number includes three graduates from the Doctoral Program in Psychology, 19 from the Master of Psychology Program, and 22 from the Professional Master of Psychology Program.
Dean of the Faculty of Psychology UGM, Rahmat Hidayat, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the graduates’ perseverance throughout their academic journey.
“You’ve likely experienced countless sleepless nights, exhaustion, perhaps even tears. All of that, God willing, is more than enough preparation for you to explore the world,” he said.
He emphasized the importance of the responsibility that comes with holding a new academic title, especially in terms of contributing to society.
“More important than the degree itself is your ability to bring benefit — to yourself, your family, your community and country, and to humanity — through what you have mastered,” he added.
The Dean also reminded the graduates that while their student status has ended, their bond with the Faculty of Psychology and UGM as a whole remains strong.
In this special moment, Debrinna Tryanan Asmaradhani — a Master of Psychology graduate and recipient of the awards for best thesis publication manuscript and fastest graduate in her program — delivered a reflective message on behalf of the graduating class.
“In every piece of knowledge we gain, there is someone else’s right to receive its benefit. We don’t just represent personal success, but also carry the responsibility of helping build society,” she said.
A heartfelt message also came from Dr. Ir. H. Sandi Asmara, M.Si., the parent of graduate Yunissa Meganingtyas. He reminded graduates that their academic title marks the beginning of meaningful service to others.
“Use your knowledge to benefit others. Don’t let it be just a decorative title on your diploma. Apply it with integrity,” he urged.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indonesian Psychological Association (HIMPSI), Dr. Andik Matulessy, M.Si., Psychologist, underscored the importance of ethical, scientific, and spiritual awareness in practicing psychology professionally.
“Remember the oath you take as a psychologist. This oath is not only about your responsibility to humanity but is also accountable before Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala, the Almighty God,” he asserted.
The event began with a joint prayer led by Imam Wahyuddin, Lc., M.Phil., followed by the psychologist’s oath-taking ceremony led by Dr. Andik Matulessy, witnessed by clergy from various religious backgrounds. The symbolic signing of the official documents was done by Yunita Fauziah and Dr. Andik Matulessy, witnessed by the Dean.
The ceremony continued with the awarding of academic transcripts by each Head of Study Program, the presentation of stoles by the Vice Dean for Academic and Student Affairs, Dr. Wenty Marina Minza, M.A., and the distribution of psychologist certification and Psychology Practice Licenses (SIPP) by HIMPSI.
The Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Collaboration, Pradytia Putri Pertiwi, S.Psi., Ph.D., awarded the best thesis publication manuscript to Debrinna Tryanan Asmaradhani from the Master of Psychology Program for her work titled “The Role of Instrumental and Emotional Parentification on Late Adolescents’ Self-Concept Clarity with Differentiation of Self as a Mediator”.
