(11/9) Promovendus Club (PC) from Doctor of Psychology Program held a Two-Week Colloquium (KDM) via Zoom Meeting and also broadcasted on Doktorpsi UGM Youtube channel.
The event started with opening speech from Mr. Rahmat Hidayat, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of Doctor of Psychological Science Program. He also welcoming the new doctoral students class of 2020. Afterwards, the event continued with the main session, which is presentation and discussion with the speakers.
Yopina Galih Pertiwi, S.Psi., M.A., Ph.D., the lecturers at Faculty of Psychology UGM had the opportunity to become the speaker at this session with a topic: Finding Theoretical Gaps for Your Research.
In her presentation, Yopina convey, in starting a research, the research problems can be found based on the real problems in the society (society needs), personal interest, professor’s interest or even the combination of those three. After determining the research topic, the next step is find the grand theory or theoretical root of the topic. Look for classic sources and updates, so the researcher will able to identify the gaps in theory. Determining grand theory will simplify the process and the results will refer back to the theory again, “Does the results support or even criticize the theory? Based on that we will get the idea and know our position as researchers” she added.
Besides, she also conveyed about the applied sides based on her dissertation: The Role of Physician’s Social Identities in Patient-Physician’s Intergroup Relations, where the aim of the study was to determine patient perceptions of doctors based on gender and ethnic group.
After the presentation, the event continued with question and answer session guided by the moderator.
This event was attended by 150 participants from UGM and the general public. Also, it was attended by Prof. Djamaludin Ancok Ph.D.
