The speaker for the session was Pradytia Putri Pertiwi, Ph.D, alumni of Faculty of Psychology UGM and University of Sydney. Currently Pradytia is a Program and Partnership Development Manager at Arbeiter Samariter Bund, a German NGO that is engaged in empowerment, civil protection and social warfare services.

In her presentation, she explained the topic of Bridging The Gap between Disaster Management Research & Practice through Applied Psychological Research, the research for her doctoral study.

She stated that disaster is an important issue, especially in Indonesia the real potential for disaster itself (natural disaster), and it is important to take preventive measures and be prepared for it. This is where psychology has an important role, because humans are a part of disaster, either as victims or people who may cause the disaster itself.

Furthermore, she explained how to respond about problems in society from the perspective of researchers and practitioners. Because previously there was a gap between researchers and practitioners, both sides had different approaches. For example, practitioners like government or NGOs, generally focus more on practical solutions that have a positive impact on society, meanwhile researchers focus more on their contribution to science in general. However, this problem currently has begun to be resolved, because collaborative studies between the government or NGOs and academics from universities are started to be conducted more .

In addition, Pradytia also explained briefly about psychological research in the field of disaster uses multi-method research in inclusive disaster studies, which was his dissertation when he was pursuing a doctoral study.

After the presentation, the event was closed with a question and answer session guided by the moderator.
