Pengen Ngobrol: The Journey and Career in Forensics Psychology

(3/10) Career in forensic psychology in Indonesia had become an attractive topic for psychology graduates. Because this field is relatively new and also quite attractive for general public in order to find out more about forensic psychology. This became one of the reasons for this 5th sesries of Pengen Ngobrol, which raised a topic called The Journey and Career in Forensics Psychology.

Pengen Ngobrol team which collaborated with Office of Cooperation, International Affairs and Alumni (OCIA) Faculty of Psychology UGM, inviting Putri Marlenny P. and Lucia Peppy Novianty as speakers at this session.

The event that attended by 100 participants was opened with short introductory session from the moderator and continued with presentation session from the first speaker, Lucia Peppy Novianty. Peppy is alumni of Faculty of Psychology UGM and the CEO of Wiloka Workshop. Besides, she is also a Forensic Qualified Psychologist. During her presentation, Peppy explained about Forensic Psychology in Indonesia, such as the area and scope of work. Generally, forensic psychologists and forensic psychologists assistant will contribute from the pre-process, implementation to post-execution of a case. For examples, contributing in examinations for suspected victims, assisted residents, the rehabilitation process, and becoming expert witnesses. Furthermore, Peppy conveyed that “the area of ​​forensic psychology is very wide and not just limited to clinical psychology”. Because in working condition, background knowledge in the field of social psychology and organization will also help in some cases that occur.

Furthermore, in second session, Putri Marlenny, who is also an alumni of Faculty of Psychology UGM that currently active as the Coordinator of the Mental Revolution Program Implementation at the Semarang City Education Services shared her experiences while working in the field of Forensic Psychology, especially in educational settings. Putri said, apart from being a companion during the case process, psychology graduates can also become evaluators in making public policies.

After the presentations from two speakers, the event was closed with discussion session, guided by the moderator.
