KDM: Family Relations and Adolescent Suicide Behavior

(9/10) Coinciding with world mental health day that commemorated on October 10, Promovendus Club (PC) from Doctor of Psychology Program held a Two-Week Colloquium (KDM) that raised a topic called Family Relations and Adolescent Suicide Behavior: Multiple Case Study.

The event was opened with short speech from Rahmat Hidayat, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D., the Head of Doctor of Psychological Science Program. It was start at 09.30 – 11.00 AM through the Zoom Meeting. After the speech, it was followed by presentation from the speaker, Dr. Tience Debora Valentina, M.A., a psychologist who is an alumni of Doctor of Psychological Science Program, Faculty of Psychology UGM. She is also a Lecturer in Psychology Study Program at Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University.

The speaker deliver topic about Family Relations and Adolescent Suicide Behavior which also her dissertation. She explained the basic theory, methods, results and notes she obtained during the research process. The research was carried out on adolescent participants and families who attempted suicide.

Based on WHO (2018), suicide is the second highest cause of death in 15-29 year age group. However, according to Dr. Tience Debora Valentina, M.A., Psychologist, family plays an important role in this. She further revealed, “Family is an important factor that can strengthen or support adolescent suicidal behavior, because family is the closest community and early development place for adolescents.” So, based on this, it is important to have good relationships and communication patterns in the family.

After the presentation, the event was continued with question and answer session that guided by moderator.

Apart from being held online through the Zoom Meeting, the event which was attended by 90 participants was also broadcast live via UGM Doktorpsi UGM Youtube channel.
