Students Susceptible to Natural Academic Stress

Stress among students is increasingly symptomatic in recent years. A study shows that the academic field becomes a primary source of stress on students. Of the 4 students, one student experiencing high academic stress.

Academic stress is caused by various factors, such as the magnitude of the task load, too much material to be studied, the need for academic achievement, academic demands strengthened by the pressure of parents, school, and peers. In addition, also the class condition and does not support the existing resources to achieve academic achievement and cultural factors.

“The academic stress experienced by students as the impact of demands, pressure, academic burden exceeding capacity requires the optimization of individual resources to confront and overcome, one of them with a positive affection,” said Kartika Nur Fathiyah Tuesday (30/7) while undergoing an open exam Doctoral Program at the Faculty of Psychology UGM.

A Positive affection mentioned the UNY Psychology department lecturer as an enjoyable and subjective experience of a person who demonstrates high energy conditions, full concentration, and standby. Positive Affection plays a role in encouraging success in various areas of life. In addition, it is also a key component of judgment and a way of facing effective pressure facing stressful situations because it is able to develop psychological resilience to grow and out of adverse situations.

Conducting research in 724 Junior high school students in Sleman Regency, Kartika sought to dig deeper into the role of positive affection in expanding and building personal self-defense resources. The results show a positive discussion that does not affect on academic stress through proactive and mastery goal orientation. This is due to the lack of proactive influence and orientation of mastery objectives.
