Monday (30/09) The Faculty of Psychology at Gadjah Mada University together with SES (Senior Experten Service), an institution from Germany, re-organized the workshop. This Workshop is focused on providing an additional understanding of the Science of Psychology, especially related to autism, by bringing experts from the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany, Bärbel Helga Luise Wohlleben (Dr. RER. Medic, graduate Psychologists).
The Workshop titled Understanding Autism: From Assessment to Intervention was conducted in the Auditorium G-100 room in two sessions; The first session took place on September 23 and 24, 2019 and the second session was on 30 September and 1 October 2019. This Workshop was attended by more or less 30 participants consisting of extraordinary school teachers who are partners of the Faculty of Psychology, PLA Therapists (Autis Service center), Sentolo, and Master of Professional Psychology study Program students.
Each workshop session in one day is divided into two parts. The first part was used by Wohlleben to convey various materials about autism, such as how to deal with autistic children, methods, tools, and educational games that can be used. This is necessary as a provision for teachers and practitioners to provide treatment to children with autism disorders.
In the second part, participants were invited to learn more about the various teaching methods for autistic children by viewing videos and practicing directly, including the use of tools and educational games. Participants are expected to expand how to provide instruction to autistic children, but still pay attention to the child’s comfort in learning. At the end of the session, Wohlleben gave the participants the opportunity to ask and share their experiences while handling autistic children.
