Bridging Minds: Mental Health Training for Deaf Leaders and Mental Health Professionals

The Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with Kesehatan Mental Tuli Indonesia (KMTI), organized a training titled “Bridging Minds: Mental Health Training for Deaf Leaders and Mental Health Professionals” on 20–21 November 2025 at the Faculty of Psychology UGM. This activity is part of a broader initiative to strengthen inclusive mental health support for Deaf communities in Indonesia.

Obrolan Psikologi Episode 16 – Small Steps, Big Dreams: A Lifelong Learning Journey of an Individual with Intellectual Disability

The Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with TVRI Yogyakarta, once again presents OPSI: Obrolan Psikologi (Psychology Talk) with its sixteenth episode, airing on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, from 3:00–4:00 PM WIB. This episode raises the theme “Small Steps, Big Dreams: A Lifelong Learning Journey of an Individual with Intellectual Disability,” which discusses the experiences of individuals with intellectual disabilities in continuously developing their potential through meaningful small steps.

Prof. Dra. Kwartarini Wahyu Yuniarti, M.Med.Sc., Ph.D., Psikolog

Prof. Dra. Kwartarini Wahyu Yuniarti, M.Med.Sc., Ph.D., Psychologist is a prominent academic and psychologist in Indonesia. “Indigenous Psychology: It’s Time to Establish the Mainstream of Science from Our Homeland” is the inaugural speech for her professorship in 2013. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Hamburg, Germany, which complements her strong educational background in psychology. She obtained her M.Med.Sc. degree from the University of Newcastle Australia and her Dra degree from the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Gadjah Mada.

Dr. Anke Karl

Dr. Anke Karl is the strategic lead of the Clinical Psychology Research Group and the Mood Disorders Centre, and serves as Director of the MDC Biobehavioural Lab. Her research examines how biological and behavioral processes shape posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and recovery from psychological trauma. She also works on applying biopsychological knowledge to improve therapies for people with PTSD and depression.

She trained in clinical psychology and behavioural neuroscience at Humboldt University Berlin, where she received the Young Scientist Award in 2001. She later completed postdoctoral research at the Center for Stress and Anxiety Disorders, University at Albany, before holding academic positions in Germany and the UK prior to joining the University of Exeter.

Her work has been published in leading journals and supported by major research funders. She also completed advanced training in cognitive behavioural therapy, is a licensed Psychological Psychotherapist, and practices as an associate therapist at the AccEPT Clinic.

Prof. Dr. Sofia Retnowati, MS., Psikolog

Prof. Dr. Sofia Retnowati, MS., Psychologist, an expert in the field of Clinical Psychology with a long academic and professional track record. On September 12, 2011, Prof. Sofi officially received the title of professor with an inaugural speech titled “Community Health Center Psychologists: Needs and Challenges for the Clinical Psychology Profession in Indonesia.” Previously, she completed his undergraduate education at the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in 1978 and obtained a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from the same faculty in 1991. Her dedication and love for this field returned her to UGM to obtain a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology in 2005.

Prof. Drs. Subandi, M.A., Ph.D., Psikolog

Prof. Drs. Subandi, M.A., Ph.D., Psychologist is a prominent academic at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada. (UGM). He has a strong educational background, holding a Doctorate in Psychology from the University of Adelaide, Australia, which he obtained in 2006 with a dissertation titled “Cultural Dimensions of Recovery from Psychotic Illness in Java.” Previously, he completed his undergraduate and master’s degrees at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). In 2015, his professorial inauguration was titled “Mental Health in the Perspective of Culture and Religion.”

Diana Setiyawati, S.Psi., MHSc., Ph.D., Psikolog

Diana Setiyawati, S.Psi., MHSc., Ph.D., Psychologist is an academic and psychologist currently working at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada. (UGM). Her academic journey began with earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Universitas Gadjah Mada in 2000, with a thesis titled “Power Reading Method to Improve Reading Skills in Children.” She then continued her professional psychology education at the same institution, graduating in 2002. In 2007, Diana completed the Master of Human Sciences in Psychology – MHSc.Psy program at the Department of Psychology, International Islamic University Malaysia, with a thesis titled “Spirituality and Personality Correlates of Organizational Citizenship Behavior.” The pinnacle of her education was achieved in 2015 with a Ph.D. in Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (Mental Health) from the Global and Cultural Mental Health Unit, Centre for Mental Health, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, The University of Melbourne, Australia. Her Ph.D. research is about Indonesian experts’ perspectives on a curriculum for psychologists working in primary health care in Indonesia. Thanks to this research, in 2014 Diana received the Australia Awards-Hadi Soesastro Prize from The Hon Julie Bishop, Deputy Prime Minister of Australia.

Fuad Hamsyah, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D.

Fuad Hamsyah completed his doctoral education (Ph.D.) in Work Psychology at Keio University, Japan, with a dissertation exploring the dynamics of work attitudes and mental well-being in dual-earner families with young children. His doctoral studies were fully funded by a scholarship from Keio University, designated for international researchers in Asia. Previously, in 2014, he obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc) in International Health from Charité Universitätsmedizin, the medical school of Humboldt University and Freie Universität in Berlin, Germany, through a full scholarship from the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD). In 2011, he earned a Bachelor of Psychology (S.Psi) degree from the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Yogyakarta, Indonesia.

Dra. Muhana Sofiati Utami, M.S., Ph.D., Psikolog

Dra. Muhana Sofiati Utami, M.S., Ph.D., Psychologist, is a clinical psychologist with a strong educational background. She completed her PhD at the National University of Malaysia and obtained her master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Psychology from the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in 1991 and 1984, respectively.
