Hilman is one of the undergraduate students of the Faculty of Psychology UGM who is currently studying in the third semester. Hilman managed to make a proud achievement, namely winning 2nd place in the 2021 Psyberfest Essay Competition organized by the Student Collaboration Project of 7 Faculty of Psychology.
In the competition, Hilman wrote an essay entitled, “Social Constructivism: Educational Model Innovation to Improve Mental Resilience in the Midst of Educational Dynamics of the Post-Covid-19 Pandemic”. The essay was composed by Hilman using an approach from psychology and what makes this essay competition feel different from the competitions that Hilman has participated in before.
When asked how he felt about winning the competition, Hilman said he was grateful for being able to make another achievement in the field of writing. Regarding whom most supports Hilman to continue writing, apart from parents and friends is myself. “The main motivation in writing is actually myself because I can help my parents and improve my abilities,” said Hilman.
Regarding the figure who inspires, Hilman admitted that Andrea Hirata is the writer he inspires. Even so, Hilman continued to develop his own self-taught writing style. “I realized that writing was my skill when I was in 3rd grade of high school. Since the 3rd grade of high school, I started to take part in small writing competitions”
The obstacles that Hilman had experienced when writing were fatigue and poor time management. Moreover, conditions like today require that lectures by online and a lot of tasks that forced Hilman to have good time management. Therefore, Hilman worked around this with the possibility of doing work after receiving information about a competition.
At the end of the interview session, Hilman gave some tips for friends who are still struggling to do writing activities. “In Social Psychology there is such a thing as an exposure effect, repeated exposure to a stimulus can increase the level of preference. Get used to often meet with the experience of writing. You can start with the genre you like,” said Hilman.
