Some students currently are millennials generation who be borned in 1995-2000. They have the necessary achievement and high affiliation compared to the earlier generation. However, the aim to be achieved not always gives a positive impact because the attitude of low and impulsive tolerance causing student to have an academic problem when facing high demands. Therefore, millennial generation needs the ability to direct their self to escape from depending on society or community and could direct motivation to achieve more appropriated.
Explained by Lecturer of Faculty of psychology UGM, Yuli Fajar Susetyo, S.Psi., M.Si., when explaining the research result about a personal factor of self-leadership to the student on open examination of doctoral promotion at Auditorium G-100 Faculty of Psychology UGM, (Thursday)28/3. The research has been involved 375 UGM students, their ages is 18-21 years and be known have never done. This thesis produce finding that personality, grit, self-efficacy, internal motivation, and regulation of emotion give contribution 55,7% on self-leadership . “The ability to lead our own self is not automatic mechanism that is owned by people, but effort of self-control consciously and involves effort for leading constructive thought, motivate self and develop strategy of behavior, “ Yuli Fajar said.
Yuli added, this finding has been known factor contribution, personality, factor grit and self-efficacy on internal motivation 49,8%, then personality contribution, grit, and self-efficacy on regulation emotion 18,9%
“Meanwhile contribution of effective personality on self-efficacy 61,1%, “ he said.
On This finding, he explained student’s self leadership who had achievement determined by regulation emotion and internal motivation. Therefore, the ability to lead our own self has not depended on characteristic self control and self belief because those are more needed is habituation mechanism for application strategy, control of emotion, control of cognitive and control of motivation.
However, being a leader for our own self, he adds, has not been depended on experience and the past but how much stronger individual effort to maintain their self. “Management self ability, lead the thought, emotion, and behavior to attain the purpose and maintain aimed behavior,” he said.
Based on the research he recommends self-development program in University and directed to drill skill and habituation doing strategy of self-leadership and developing 2 main determinants, namely emotion control skills, facilitate internal motivation and drill participants to figure out and find out sight of activity that have relationship with internal motivation.
